Business Research: Expanding Your Market

 

The following agencies will help you track down case studies, sector research and free searchable databases plus information about local, national and international trends and markets.

 

• Regional growth trends and demographic information for King County are available through the King County Annual Growth Report, available online at www.metrokc.gov/budget/agr.

 

• Comparative information about counties and cities in the central Puget Sound region is available through the Puget Sound Regional Council. Call 206-464-7090 for assistance.

 

• A wealth of business research data is available through the Seattle Public Library. Check Business Resource Section. Check online at www.spl.org. Click “browse” for databases and websites; then scroll down to “categories” and clock on the section for Business and Finance. Much easier than it sounds.

 

• Similar information is available through the University of Washington Business Resources On Line at www.lib.washington.edu/business/guides/key.html.

 

• The Washington Technology Council’s (WTC) Grant Programs provide funds for Washington businesses able to partner with state universities on research and development projects. Call 206-685-1920.

 

• Washingto Technology Council also provides private businesses access to a clean room on the UW Campus for microfabrication research. Call 206-685-1920.

 

• Customized assistance is available to expanding and relocating businesses through the Economic Development Council of King County (now called Enterprise Seattle). Help is available for issues involving financing, business research and work force training referrals. 206-389-8650.
