Mysteries Revealed
Ever wonder what on
earth government agencies are thinking when it comes to the Seattle
industrial base? If so, it's not unusual. But, it is unusual for City Hall
to answer that question and that's what will happen Wednesday, June 18,
during the Industrial Jobs Initiative Open House sponsored by the city's
Office of Economic Development.
The event will include exhibits
from organizations and programs providing services that help industrial
firms and their employees. It will also provide opportunities to give
input about city programs and policies that need to be improved or
created.
The event runs from 4-7 p.m. in Building A of the new
Puget Sound Industrial Excellence Center, 6737 Corson Avenue South in
Georgetown.
The open house will be used to develop recommendations
to the Mayor and City Council about ways the city can improve services to
industrial companies.
Well, Duh…
Today's
Seattle Post Intelligencer – of all places – includes a column that
suggests today's oil prices and related horrors might just have a teensy,
weensy bit to do with the US failure to develop its own energy resources.
That conclusion might not rank as rocket science for you, but it is
positively Einsteinian when it comes to most news coverage which almost
always fails to connect the dots that US energy supplies are dramatically
impacted by NIMBYism and aesthetic concerns that energy development is
often, well, "icky."
Read
the column here, in the news service section of the Seattle Industry
website, where you will also find a brilliant recent column by Charles
Krauthammer about our collective national failure to put 2 and 2 together
on energy. You might say we are child-like in our national naivety about
energy. But that would be insulting to children.
