Net Inbound Up
The past 17 months
included some of the worst economic news of the decade, but residents of
the Puget Sound region might find solace in the number 55.
From
January of 2007 through May 2008, moving companies brought more new people
to the Puget Sound region than they moved out, with an upward jump in the
last two months.
This news comes courtesy of Greg and Ginnie
Blaine, owners of Continental Van Lines in Seattle and it is based on
nearly 20,000 shipments that were performed by moving companies affiliated
with the UniGroup agency, which includes Mayflower Transit and United Van
Lines.
The companies conducted 10,180 shipments in and 8,137 out,
officially making the Puget Sound market one of the nation's "net inbound"
areas with 55% of commercial moves coming in instead of going
out.
"The inbound rate is up 6% over June of last year and that's
probably a good thing," said Ginnie Blaine. "We're a good barometer for
business activity and the health of a region."
