One million miles of drive-alone commuting were eliminated over the past year by Duwamish, Ballard and Tukwila employees participating in the Easy Rewards commute trip reduction program.
The 990 people who participated in Easy Rewards from June 2007 through May 2008 accounted for 963,182 saved miles. Participants average 80,000 saved per month, so they passed the million mark earlier this month.
In addition to saved miles, the Easy Rewards participants saved 26 tons of drive-alone carbon emissions while sparing themselves $550,000 in car operating costs. They also eliminated 52,459 drive-along commutes.
Easy Rewards provides up to $225 in financial incentives to drivers who work in the M&I centers willing to try carpools, vanpools, transit or some other alternative to drive-alone commuting. Seed money of up to $2,000 is also available for employers who create transportation benefit programs for their employees.
Easy Rewards is a partnership between the Washington State Department of Transportation, Metro and the Duwamish TMA.

Development. The goal of the Action Agenda is to support the businesses
and employees that make up the SODO community by helping them to better
define their priorities for transportation, freight mobility, pedestrian
safety, and public safety.

Increased Ferry service and Patrol for
4th of July weekend
Next week the WSDOT
Ferries Division will be increasing some of their services to accommodate
for heavy holiday travel. Along with the added travel service, the
Washington State Patrol will be present to help enforce the firework laws
of Washington State and the security of ferry passengers. Riders are also
being asked to disembark the vessel once it reaches each port. This means
that riders wishing to watch the firework shows from the decks will have
to do so from the shore after reaching its destination.
Here are
the added services for the Central Sound Ferries:
• Edmonds/Kingston:
Friday, July 4: Saturday schedule. A parade will cause delays for
customers offloading from the 12:05 p.m. sailing to Kingston and customers
catching the 12:50 p.m. from Kingston.
• Seattle/Bainbridge: Friday,
July 4: Weekend schedule.
• Seattle/Bremerton: Friday, July 4: Extra
sailings at 10:10 p.m. from Bremerton and 11:30 p.m. from
Seattle.

WSP
would like to advise all passengers who are planning on bringing legal
fireworks (sparklers, ground spinners and roman candles) aboard the
vessels that they be placed where they are easily accessible to the WSP to
examine and allow for extra screening time before boarding. All illegal
fireworks or other types of explosive devices will be confiscated and
disposed of before the passenger is allowed to board the
vessel.
