Untold millions of us probably still regard talk of a "Green Economy" as political rhetoric that's hopelessly tie-died to the hippy-dippy mind fluff of the 1960s. But faster than you can hum In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (play time: 17-plus minutes) greener industrial products and practices are emerging in the greater Pacific Northwest and you can learn more about these amazing innovations in the new issue of Seattle Industry magazine.

Greener airplanes, greener trucks, greener tugboats, greener buildings and greener electricity are being made now by companies such as Boeing, Kenworth Truck and Foss Maritime. The greater Pacific Northwest is also at the forefront of dramatic new techniques for tapping into geothermal power – literally, the heat of the earth – a resource that could someday supply the world with enormous loads of emissions-free electricity.

CTED Expands Market Coverage in SE Asia and Europe
CTED has recently expanded its network of foreign representatives into several key emerging and developed markets. Electronic Export Filing is Mandatory Beginning 10/1/2008
The U.S. Census Bureau has recently announced it is requiring all companies to file export information electronically through the Automated Export System (AES) for any shipments that require a Shipper's Export Declaration (SED). AES is the electronic filing system for submitting export information to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

1st Ave S:
Hwy 99 (SB) off-ramp to 1st Ave S Closure - SDOT will be closing the Highway 99 (southbound) off-ramp to 1st Ave S at night while they grind and lay pavement at the bottom of the ramp on to the 1st Ave S roadway. Work will start as early as 9/29 lasting through 10/3 from 9pm-6am and will be dependent on weather conditions.
Detour route: south to the Harbor Island exit following S Spokane St, turning left at SW Klickitat Way, then eastbound to West Seattle High Rise Bridge. Once on the high rise bridge drivers exit at 1st Ave S.
S Atlantic St to S Dearborn St - Pavement grinding, repairing and paving will take place over the next 3-4 weeks at night; 6pm to 6am.
Work will be weather dependent.
S Mead St to S Findlay St - day time work; 7am to 4pm, to correct 600 ft section of single lane.
What to Expect:
*lane closures, pedestrian detours, parking restrictions & moderate construction noise and dust
*There will be no traffic disruptions during major sports events

S Spokane St Closure:
Work has begun on the replacement of an old water main on the lower S Spokane St roadway. The road way closure started Tuesday Sept. 16th and will continue through 2010 as the utilities project evolves into the S Spokane St widening/4th Ave off-ramp project. - Expect delays during the next few weeks as the signal timing is being adjusted. Only local traffic will be allowed onto S Spokane St from 1st – 2nd Ave S, parking will be restricted and trucks are being asked not to use the upper roadway.
See the detour map for through traffic from East Marginal Way to I5.

14th Ave S (South Park) Street Improvements:
The contractor continues to work on 14th Avenue South, from South Director Street to South Cloverdale Street. They have finished with the center lane and southbound lanes and are now working on the northbound lanes (eastern side of the street). One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction, with possible occasional detours for traffic. During this time there will be no on-street parking, and there will be some limitations on left turns.
